Duel between Emilio Aguayo and Tom Lecomte with the stellar participation of Lucy Charles

Lanzarote is preparing to host next Saturday the 35th edition of the oldest international triathlon in Spain, the Volcano Triathlon. A race that brings together great professional champions and age groups in spring dates in Lanzarote. Club Santa promotes and organizes this highly prestigious event. Registration closes tomorrow Wednesday and it is expected that the participation will exceed half a thousand participants.

The race is Olympic distance and scoring modality for the Canary Series, so there will be the very best athletes who will have to overcome three segments. The swimming segment of 1.5 km. going through the saltwater lagoon of Club La Santa. The second segment of cycling of 40 km. going to Famara, passing through Caleta Caballo and Soo, where athletes will have to do two laps. Lastly, the third segment of running of 10 km, which goes to the town of La Santa, where athletes will have to run several laps.

In addition to Tom Lecomte, Reece Barclays will participate on the race, fifth in the Volcano 2018, with his wife, Lucy Charles, who is making the most of her stay at Club La Santa to train and get ready for her international commitments, including the IRONMAN World Championship.

It will also be interesting to see the duel between the Spanish Emilio Aguayo and the French Tom Lecomte, second and third in the past IRONMAN 70.3. In addition, Emilio Aguayo will be defending his title since he won the Volcano Triathlon last year. Among the 500 participants there will be many from the Peninsula and from the islands. The Volcano Triathlon is considered as the prelude to the IRONMAN Lanzarote that is celebrated three weeks later.

Information for the public and participants

For the public and participants, there will be easy access to Club La Santa, from Tinajo. But during the race, the roads from Club La Santa to Caleta Caballo, Soo and Famara will be closed from 10 am to 1 pm, until the last participant finishes.


On Friday 3rd of May, participants will get their dorsal at the Plaza, Club La Santa, from 3 pm to 6.30 pm. The Pasta Party will take place at the Atlántico Restaurant from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm. with an invitation for participants. At 7 pm there will be the technical meeting at the Plaza, Club La Santa.

On race day, Saturday 4th of May, participants will do the bike check-in from 8 am to 9.30. At 10 am the swimming will start for the male individual participants at the lagoon of Club La Santa. At 10.05 am the swimming will start for individual female participants and relays. At 10.08, will be the turn for the paratriathletes, classificatory for the Canary Islands Championship. At 8.30 pm, final closing ceremony with awards ceremony will take place at the Plaza of Club La Santa.
