IRONMAN, a Wanda Sports Holdings company has announced the results of its 2018 Athlete Choice Awards, releasing the Top 10 scoring events in a variety of categories based on athlete surveys from all of the 2018 IRONMAN® and IRONMAN® 70.3® races globally.
IRONMAN Oceania has scooped the global awards, winning both the best IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 event categories.
- Of the 41 IRONMAN series events in 2018, Cairns Airport IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship Cairns has won the title of the world’s best in Overall Satisfaction.
- Of the 105 IRONMAN 70.3 series events in 2018, The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong has won the title of the world’s best in Overall Satisfaction.
IRONMAN Oceania Managing Director, Dave Beeche said he was delighted to see so many Oceania events featuring prominently in the world-wide survey of athletes.

The Cairns Airport IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship Cairns is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It’s Live! In Queensland events calendar, worth $800m to the state’s economy in 2019.
Results for the 2018 Athlete Choice Awards were gathered from post event surveys sent to all athletes who competed in an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 race.
Surveys were based on a 5-point satisfaction scale and encompassed multiple categories.
After collecting feedback from more than 55,000 total survey respondents, the winners were chosen for each category of IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events, marking a major accomplishment for the events and their host communities.
